THE LOCAL SONS OF NORWAY LODGE WILL HOLD A PUBLIC PROGRAM THIS WEEK.  THE STAVANGER LODGE WILL MEET AT 6:00 THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE COUNTY MUSEUM IN WINDOM.  THERE WILL BE A POT-LUCK SUPPER AT 6:00.   AT 7:00, THERE WILL BE A PROGRAM INCLUDING A CELEBRATION OF THE NORWEGIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY ON MAY 17TH.  THE GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE ROGER HELLESVIG OF MINNEAPOLIS.  HELLESVIG DOES HISTORICAL PRESENTATIONS, PORTRAYING A NORWEGIAN IMMIGRANT NAMED “OLE OLSESON.” 
THE WINDOM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MEETS AT NOON THURSDAY AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.     THE BOARD WILL HEAR THE ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE RIVER BLUFF TOWNHOMES, AND CONSIDER A NEW MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT.  THERE WILL BE DISCUSSION ON A PROPOSED SIGN FOR THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK, AND A FARM LEASE.  THE BOARD WILL DISCUSS A FILL AGREEMENT, AND A LOT AT THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK.  THE MONTHLY FINANCIAL REPORT WILL BE PRESENTED. 
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.   PLANS AND SPECIFICATION WERE APPROVED FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLAN, AND THE COUNCIL CALLED FOR BIDS ON THE PROJECT.  THE ESTIMATED COST IS NOW AT 15.3-MILLION DOLLARS.  THE FIRST READING WAS HELD OF TWO NEW ORDINANCES TO REGULATE SIDEWALK CAFES, AND THE OUTDOOR SALES AND SERVICE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.  HALLIE WILL WAS HIRED AS A SUMMER INTERN.  TWO NEW EMPLOYEES WERE HIRED FOR THE ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT.    
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.   SENIOR DAKOTA SCOTT MADE A PRESENTATION ON HIS EAGLE ACHIEVEMENT PROJECT.  A NEW AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED WITH THE PALMER BUS SERVICE FOR STUDENT TRANSPORTATION.  THE BOARD APPROVED A MEMO WITH THE TEACHERS’ UNION, INVOLVING HEALTH INSURANCE OPTIONS.  THE BOARD APPROVED PLANS FOR A STUDENT TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D-C IN THE SUMMER OF 2019.  A PRELIMINARY BUDGET WAS APPROVED FOR THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR.    
THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET THIS WEEK.   A BID WAS ACCEPTED FOR A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ON COUNTY HIGHWAY 15.  THE BOARD AGREED TO SHARE THE SERVICES OF THE COUNTY ENGINEER WITH WATONWAN COUNTY ON A TEMPORARY BASIS.  SEASONAL EMPLOYEES WERE HIRED FOR THE LANDFILL, PARKS DEPARTMENT AND HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT.  SANDRA MELTON WAS HIRED AS THE CAMPGROUND HOST AT TALCOT LAKE PARK.  A LEASE WAS EXTENDED WITH THE SW-WC SERVICE COOP FOR OFFICE SPACE AT THE NORTH HIGHWAY 71 OFFICE BUILDING.
THE ANNUAL ‘WINGS ON THE PRAIRIE’ EVENT WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY AT WOLF LAKE IN WINDOM.  ACTIVITIES WILL BEGIN WITH AN EARLY RISERS’ BIRD WALK AT 7:30.  KID’S ACTIVITIES WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 8:30 TO 10:00, INCLUDING CRAFT PROJECTS, AND A PROGRAM LED BY THE PRAIRIE ECOLOGY BUS CENTER.  AT 10:00, THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION BY THE GREAT PLAINS ZOO.   A FREE LUNCH WILL BE SERVED AT 11:00, SPONSORED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE WINDOM WETLAND MANAGEMENT DISTRICT.  THE DAY IS BEING HOSTED BY THE U-S FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE OFFICE IN WINDOM.
