THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT IS HOLDING A HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION, AND RECYCLING OF APPLIANCES AND ELECTRONICS.   COLLECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY AT THE JEFFERS HIGHWAY SHOP FROM 9:00 TO 10:00; AT THE STORDEN TOWNSHIP SHED FROM 11:00 TO NOON; AND AT THE WESTBROOK HIGHWAY SHOP FROM 2:00 TO 4:00 TUESDAY AFTERNOON.  COLLECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY IN WINDOM AND MT LAKE.  THERE WILL BE A FEE TO RECYCLING APPLIANCES AND ELECTRONICS. 
THE LAKEFIELD SUMMERFEST CELEBRATION IS BEING HELD THIS WEEK.    THE THEME IS “Living the Sweet Life.”  RAFFLE TICKETS ARE ON SALE; SUMMERFEST BUTTONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR $5.  TONIGHT, THERE WILL BE A PINOCHLE TOURNAMENT AT THE MULTI-PURPOSE CENTER.  ON WEDNESDAY, THE LEGION AUXILIARY WILL HOLD A SALAD LUNCHEON FROM 11:00 TO 1:00. 
REGISTRATIONS ARE BEING TAKEN FOR TWO EVENTS AT THE LAKEFIELD SUMMERFEST.   THE PINOCHLE TOURNAMENT IS TONIGHT AT 6:00 AT THE MULTI-PURPOSE CENTER.  THERE IS A $5 ENTRY FEE; CASH PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED.  TO SIGN UP, CALL MARLESS AT 662-5254, OR CALL THE CENTER AT 662-6714.   A NEW EVENT – THE ‘500’ CARD TOURNAMENT, WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON.  THERE WILL BE A $5 ENTRY FEE .  ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME. YOU MUST SIGN UP IN ADVANCE TO PARTICIPATE. 
THE WESTBROOK CITY COUNCIL MET LAST WEEK.   BIDS WERE OPENED FOR A SEWER PROJECT.  THE WINNING BID WAS AWARDED TO GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT OF BREWSTER, WITH A BASE BID OF JUST OVER 50-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.  THE BID FOR CONCRETE MANHOLES WAS JUST OVER 17-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.  THE WESTBROOK AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT REPORTED THAT IT WOULD BE INCREASING ITS RATES FOR TRANSFERS.  AMBULANCE SQUAD MEMBERS WILL BE GOING TO AN HOURLY ON-CALL RATE.    
THE 2018 FULDA WOOD DUCK FESTIVAL IS BEING HELD THIS WEEK.   THE THEME IS “LEARNING FOR A LIFETIME,” SALUTING THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN SCHOOL.  EVENTS BEGIN WITH THE MISS FULDA CONTEST WEDNESDAY EVENING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.  THURSDAY’S EVENTS INCLUDE A SUPPER AT THE PARK, AND A BIG BAND CONCERT.  ON FRIDAY, A COMMUNITY SUPPER, KIDDIE PARADE, AND THE FIREMEN’S DANCE.   SATURDAY’S EVENTS INCLUDE A PICKLE-BALL TOURNAMENT, THE LAWN MOWER POKER RUN, THE GRAND PARADE, THE LIONS CLUB STREET DANCE AND FIREWORKS.  ON SUNDAY, FAMILY FUN IN THE PARK AND A SILENT AUCTION.
THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.   THE BOARD CALLED FOR THE SALE OF TAX-FORFEITED PROPERTIES.  A BID WAS ACCEPTED FOR THE ‘SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL’ PROJECT IN WINDOM.  SEVERAL CONDITIONAL USE PERMITS WERE APPROVED, INCLUDING PERMITS FOR A GARAGE, A STORAGE BUILDING, AND A PERMIT TO EXPAND A SAND PIT.  THE COUNTY ASSESSOR REPORTED ON THE UPCOMING COUNTY BOARD OF APPEAL.  THE BOARD VOTED TO ADVERTISE AN OPENING FOR A FULL-TIME APPRAISER.
