THIS IS WINTER HAZARD AWARENESS WEEK IN MINNESOTA.    TODAY’S TOPIC IS INDOOR WINTER SAFETY.  HAVE YOUR HEATING SYSTEM CHECKED BY A PROFESSIONAL.  ALL HOMES SHOULD HAVE CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS.  THE RISK OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING IS GREATER DURING THE WINTER.   HOMES SHOULD ALSO BE TESTED FOR RADON.  RADON IS A GAS THAT CAN ACCUMULATE IN BASEMENTS.  MOLD GROWTH MAY TAKE PLACE IN THE WINTER, CAUSING HEALTH PROBLEMS.    
 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HELD A SPECIAL MEETING THIS WEEK.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED LONG-TERM PLANNING FOR FACILITY REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE PROJECTS.  THE DISTRICT HAS A NUMBER OF POTENTIAL PROJECTS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED, INCLUDING ROOF REPAIRS, FLOODING, AIR-HANDLING EQUIPMENT, THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD COMPLEX, AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE PROJECT.  FUNDING OPTIONS INCLUDING STATE AID FOR LONG-TERM FACILITY NEEDS, FACILITY MAINTENANCE BONDS, ABATEMENT BONDS, OR A LEASE-LEVY PURCHASE.   
 
A REGULAR MEETING OF THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD THIS WEEK.  THE WINDOM AREA HOSPITAL GAVE A PRESENTATION ON ITS RE-BRANDING PROPOSAL.   THE TELE-COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION DISCUSSED ITS RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE CABLE T-V SYSTEM WITH A STREAMING VIDEO PRODUCT.  THE COMMUNITY CENTER COMMISSION REVIEWED PROPOSED CHANGES IN RENTAL RATES, INCLUDING RATES FOR THE NEW OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT AREA.   THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE NEW RATES.  THEY REVIEWED PROPOSALS FROM ENGINEERING FIRMS FOR A STUDY OF WATER DRAINAGE ISSUES AT RED LEAF COURT AND 18TH AVENUE.   
 
THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.   THE COUNCIL DISCUSSED REMODELING OPTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER.  DIFFERENT IDEAS WERE CONSIDERED FOR RE-PAINTING THE WALLS AND REPLACING THE FLOORING.  THERE WAS ALSO A REQUEST TO ENLARGE THE POOL ROOM.   IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE COUNCIL DISCUSSED IDEAS FOR INCREASING ATTENDANCE AT THE NEXT COFFEE WITH THE COUNCIL SESSION.  THE FIRST READING WAS HELD OF AN ORDINANCE TO REGULATE SMALL CELL TOWERS.  THERE WAS A REPORT ON A SURVEY OF CITY EMPLOYEES.   
 
THE WINDOM E-D-A HOLDS A BOARD MEETING FRIDAY MORNING.   A PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD ON THE PROPOSED SALE OF PROPERTY IN THE 11-HUNDRED BLOCK OF MILLER AVENUE.  AFTER THE HEARING, THE BOARD MAY APPROVE THE SALE.  THE 2019 “SMART” GOALS WILL BE DISCUSSED.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON THE PRAIRIE MEADOW SUB-DIVISION.  THE BOARD WILL DISCUSS THE DE-CERTIFICATION OF A “TIF” DISTRICT.  THEY WILL HEAR A REPORT ON PLANS FOR PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS HOUSING OPTIONS IN WINDOM.
