THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD WILL MEET AT 3:00 THIS AFTERNOON.   THEY WILL CONSIDER APPOINTMENTS TO THE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD.  THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A TOBACCO LICENSE.  THE BOARD WILL REVIEW A STATE GRANT AGREEMENT FOR A BRIDGE PROJECT.  THEY WILL CONSIDER AN AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES FROM THE SOUTHWEST REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION.  2019 SALARIES WILL BE SET FOR COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS, AND FOR COUNTY ELECTED OFFICIALS.   THE TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING WILL BE HELD AT 6:00PM.   
 
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL HELD ITS “TRUTH IN TAXATION” HEARING THIS WEEK.   INFORMATION WAS PRESENTED ON THE 2019 CITY BUDGET.   TOTAL REVENUES ARE PROJECTED AT JUST OVER 22-MILLION DOLLARS FOR ALL FUNDS, WITH EXPENSES PROJECTED AT ROUGHLY 22.5-MILLION DOLLARS.  BUDGETS FOR THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS MAKE UP JUST OVER 51% OF GENERAL FUND SPENDING.  THE PROPOSED 2019 PROPERTY TAX LEVY IS CURRENTLY ESTIMATED AT JUST OVER 2-MILLION DOLLARS, AN INCREASE OF 5.2% OVER THE CURRENT YEAR’S LEVY.      
 
A JUNIOR-HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WAS HELD MONDAY IN WINDOM.     THERE WERE 23 TEAMS FROM 9 AREA SCHOOLS.   A TEAM FROM JACKSON COUNTY CENTRAL WON THE MEET, WITH MURRAY COUNTY CENTRAL IN 2ND PLACE, ADRIAN 3RD, AND THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IN 4TH PLACE.   WINDOM HAD TWO TEAMS IN THE MEET, FINISHING IN 11TH PLACE AND 23RD PLACE.  CEDAR MOUNTAIN HAD TEAMS IN 9TH PLACE AND 19TH PLACE.  A SECOND TEAM FROM MT LAKE CHRISTIAN FINISHED IN 22ND PLACE.   THERE WILL BE A SUB-REGIONAL MEET IN JANUARY.     
 
A MEETING OF THE WESTBROOK CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD THIS WEEK.    THE TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING WAS HELD.   DURING THE REGULAR MEETING, THE COUNCIL APPROVED THE 2019 CITY BUDGET, AND CERTIFIED THE PROPERTY TAX LEVY.  THE LEVY WAS SET AT JUST OVER 336-THOUSAND-DOLLARS, AN INCREASE OF 12.09% OVER THE CURRENT YEAR’S LEVY.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, RANDALL COMNICK WAS RE-APPOINTED TO THE UTILITY COMMISSION.  A LIST OF UNPAID CHARGES FOR MOWING SERVICES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE OWNERS’ PROPERTY TAXES.    
 
THE 33RD ANNUAL SPRINGFIELD NATIVITY PAGEANT WILL BE PRESENTED THIS WEEK.   THIS YEAR’S PAGEANT WILL BE PRESENTED IN A NEW LOCATION, ON THE GROUNDS OF THE SPRINGFIELD AREA COMMUNITY CENTER.  PERFORMANCES WILL BE HELD AT 7:00PM FRIDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING.  AFTER EACH PERFORMANCE, THERE WILL BE HOSPITALITY AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER.  THERE IS NO CHARGE TO ATTEND.  THE PAGEANT RE-ENACTS THE STORY OF THE FIRST CHRISTMAS, INCLUDING A MANGER SCENE, LIVE ANIMALS AND A COMMUNITY CHORUS.   
    
THE WINDOM E-D-A WILL MEET FRIDAY MORNING.   THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON THE SMALL CITIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.  THE BOARD WILL HEAR A RECAP ON THE PUBLIC MEETINGS BEING HELD TO DISCUSS MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING.  THE E-D-A WILL CONTINUE ITS REVIEW OF PROPOSED CHANGES IN THE CITY’S COMPREHENSIVE PLAN.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON A PROPERTY THAT WAS SOLD IN THE 11-HUNDRED BLOCK OF MILLER AVENUE.
