THE MURRAY COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WILL MEET THIS MORNING.   NEW MEMBERS WILL TAKE THE OATH OF OFFICE.  A CHAIRPERSON AND VICE-CHAIR WILL BE ELECTED.  BIDS WILL BE OPENED FOR THE OFFICIAL COUNTY NEWSPAPER.  2019 APPROPRIATIONS WILL BE APPROVED.   COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE FINALIZED.  APPOINTMENTS WILL BE MADE TO VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.  THE BOARD WILL HOLD A BID OPENING FOR A BRIDGE PROJECT IN MASON TOWNSHIP.  A DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON PARKING FOR SUNRISE TERRACE. 

 

A MEETING OF THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD WILL BE HELD THIS MORNING.  A CHAIRPERSON AND VICE-CHAIR WILL BE ELECTED.  A NUMBER OF ORGANIZATION ITEMS AND APPOINTMENTS WILL BE HANDLED.  THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TANDEM TRUCK AND PLOWING EQUIPMENT.   A NEW FORMAT WILL BE ADOPTED FOR PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS FOR SUPERVISORY AND NON-SUPERVISORY EMPLOYEES.   

 

WINDOM-NET HAS AN UPDATE ON VIDEO ISSUES WITH THE TWIN CITIES T-V CHANNELS.    TESTING HAS BEEN CONDUCTED BY THE INTERNET TRANSPORT COMPANY THAT PROVIDES THE TWIN CITIES SIGNALS TO WINDOM-NET.  THE COMPANY DETERMINED THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE INTERNET CIRCUIT BETWEEN WINDOM AND MINNEAPOLIS.  THE ROUTE WILL BE RE-DESIGNED.  UNTIL THE NEW LINK IS IN PLACE, WINDOM-NET HAS SETUP ALTERNATE FEEDS FOR THREE OF THE AFFECTED CHANNELS, WITH WCCO ON CHANNEL 23, KMSP ON CHANNEL 24, AND KARE ON CHANNEL 25. 

 

THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET LAST WEEK.  NORM HOLMEN WAS ELECTED AS CHAIRPERSON, WITH KEVIN STEVENS AS VICE-CHAIR.  THE COUNTY CORONER WAS APPOINTED.  A PRIORITY LIST WAS APPROVED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECTS.  THE BOARD CALLED FOR BIDS ON UPCOMING HIGHWAY PROJECTS.   ORGANIZATIONAL BUSINESS INCLUDED APPROVING THE 2019 MEETING SCHEDULE; SETTING WAGES FOR SEASONAL EMPLOYEES; AND SETTING THE 2019 SCHEDULE OF FEES FOR COUNTY OFFICES.   A RENTAL RATE WAS SET FOR THE LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN COTTONWOOD COUNTY AND THE WINDOM CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT.   

     

                                                       

MORE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES ARE BEING HELD IN THE AREA.   ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED.  ON WEDNESDAY, A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE WILL BE HELD AT THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER, WITH HOURS FROM 1:30 UNTIL 6:30.   DONORS MAY SIGN UP FOR A CHANCE TO WIN DOOR PRIZES.  WALK-INS WILL BE WELCOME.  ON THURSDAY, THERE WILL BE A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE AT THE SANBORN BALLROOM, AND AT THE SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MADELIA.  DONORS SHOULD WEIGH AT LEAST 110 POUNDS AND BE IN GOOD GENERAL HEALTH.   

 

WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL HOSTED A V-E-X ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY.    THERE WERE 38 TEAMS IN THE EVENT.  TEAMS COMPETED IN QUALIFYING ROUNDS, QUARTER-FINALS, SEMI-FINALS AND FINAL ROUNDS.  THERE WAS ALSO A SKILLS CHALLENGE.  THE CHAMPIONSHIP ALLIANCE INVOLVED TEAMS FROM TRI-CITY UNITED AND SOUTHLAND.  THE WINDOM HIGH SCHOOL “BUTTERFINGERS” TEAM LOST IN THE SEMI-FINALS AFTER FINISHING IN 4TH PLACE THROUGH THE QUALIFYING ROUND.  A TEAM FROM HERON LAKE-OKABENA ALSO PARTICIPATED.
