MORE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES ARE BEING HELD IN THE AREA.   ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED.  TODAY, A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE WILL BE HELD AT THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER, WITH HOURS FROM 1:30 UNTIL 6:30.   DONORS MAY SIGN UP FOR A CHANCE TO WIN DOOR PRIZES.  WALK-INS WILL BE WELCOME.  ON THURSDAY, THERE WILL BE A RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE AT THE SANBORN BALLROOM, AND AT THE SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MADELIA.  DONORS SHOULD WEIGH AT LEAST 110 POUNDS AND BE IN GOOD GENERAL HEALTH.   

 

WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL HOSTED A V-E-X ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY.    THERE WERE 38 TEAMS IN THE EVENT.  TEAMS COMPETED IN QUALIFYING ROUNDS, QUARTER-FINALS, SEMI-FINALS AND FINAL ROUNDS.  THERE WAS ALSO A SKILLS CHALLENGE.  THE CHAMPIONSHIP ALLIANCE INVOLVED TEAMS FROM TRI-CITY UNITED AND SOUTHLAND.  THE WINDOM HIGH SCHOOL “BUTTERFINGERS” TEAM LOST IN THE SEMI-FINALS AFTER FINISHING IN 4TH PLACE THROUGH THE QUALIFYING ROUND.  A TEAM FROM HERON LAKE-OKABENA ALSO PARTICIPATED.   

 

A REGULAR MEETING OF THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD THIS WEEK.   A NUMBER OF OFFICIAL APPOINTMENTS AND DESIGNATIONS WERE APPROVED.  THE CITY’S INVESTMENT POLICY WAS REVIEWED AND APPROVED.  BUILDING PERMIT FEES WERE ADOPTED FOR 2019.  A STATE SURCHARGE WILL BE ADDED TO THE BASE FEE.  OFFICIAL RATES AND FEES WERE ESTABLISHED FOR CITY SERVICES.   THE DEPOSIT AND RENTAL FEE FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER WILL BE INCREASED.  THE FIRST READING WAS HELD OF AN ORDINANCE, PLACING AN ADDITIONAL PARCEL OF LAND IN THE CITY’S RURAL SERVICE DISTRICT.   

 

THE WINDOM CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION WILL MEET AT 5:15 THIS AFTERNOON AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.    NEW MEMBERS WILL BE WELCOMED.  ELECTION OF OFFICERS WILL BE HELD.  THE COMMISSION WILL DISCUSS A PROPOSAL FOR A NEW CAMPGROUND LOCATION.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON THE “ADOPT A PARK” PROGRAM.  A REPORT WILL BE PRESENTED ON PLANS FOR BATHROOM REPAIRS AT CITY PARKS.  THE PARKS SUPERINTENDENT WILL DISCUSS TREE MAINTENANCE.  A DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON FEES AND POLICIES FOR BALL FIELD USE AND MAINTENANCE.   

 

A SUB-REGIONAL JUNIOR HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WAS HELD MONDAY IN MARSHALL.   THERE WERE 56 TEAMS IN THE MEET.  THE TOP HALF OF TEAMS WILL ADVANCE TO THE SUPER-REGIONAL MEET IN MARSHALL THIS THURSDAY.  A TEAM FROM JACKSON COUNTY CENTRAL FINISHED IN 1ST PLACE.  THE MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL “OLIVE” TEAM WAS 3RD.  AMONG OTHER TEAMS ADVANCING TO THE NEXT ROUND WERE TWO TEAMS FROM WESTBROOK-WALNUT GROVE; TWO MORE TEAMS FROM MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL, A TEAM FROM MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, AND A TEAM FROM WINDOM ADVANCED TO THE NEXT ROUND.  WINDOM HAD TWO TEAMS AT THE MEET.   

 

THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT 9:00 THURSDAY MORNING IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER IN WINDOM.   ELECTION OF OFFICERS WILL BE HELD.  APPOINTMENTS WILL BE MADE TO A NUMBER OF COMMITTEES.  A MEETING SCHEDULE WILL BE ADOPTED FOR 2019.  THE OFFICIAL NEWSPAPERS AND DEPOSITORIES WILL BE DESIGNATED.  A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WILL BE APPROVED FOR A CHILDREN’S COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAM.  A SOCIAL WORKER WILL BE HIRED.
