WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL IS PRESENTING A WINTER MUSICAL THIS WEEK.  PERFORMANCES OF “SISTER ACT” WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LECTURE HALL AT 7:00PM ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, WITH A 3:30pm MATINEE PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY AND A 2:00PM MATINEE PERFORMANCE ON SATURDAY.   SISTER ACT IS BASED ON THE 1992 MOVIE; IT WAS ADAPTED INTO A STAGE SHOW IN 2006.   DELORIS, A LOUNGE SINGER PLAYED BY ELIANA TADE, WITNESSES A GANGLAND KILLING.  TO PROTECT HER IDENTITY, SHE IS PLACED AT A CONVENT, WHERE SHE JOINS THE NUNS IN THEIR CHOIR.   

 

THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.   THE COUNCIL APPROVED AN ORDINANCE, PLACING A PARCEL OF LAND INTO THE RURAL SERVICE DISTRICT.  SEVERAL GRANTS AND DONATIONS WERE RECEIVED FOR THE MT LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER.  IT WAS DETERMINED THE CITY HAS SUFFICENT FUNDS TO PROCEED WITH THE INSTALLATION OF NEW FLOORING AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER.  THE WORK WILL BEGIN AT THE END OF MARCH.   THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR REVIEWED A REPORT ON THE CITY’S BONDED DEBT.   

 

THE WESTBROOK CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.   THE COUNCIL VOTED TO RENEW THE CITY’S WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE COVERAGE.  THE AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT PRESENTED A REQUEST TO PURCHASE SOME NEW EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS.  THE AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT ALSO REPORTED THE RESULTS FROM ITS RECENT ELECTION OF OFFICERS.  A BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATION WAS APPROVED FOR A CAR PORT.   

 

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD WILL HOLD A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY.   THE BOARD WILL MEET IN SPECIAL SESSION AT 5:00 THIS AFTERNOON.  THIS WILL BE A JOINT MEETING WITH THE JACKSON CITY COUNCIL, HELD AT THE CITY HALL BUILDING.  THE COUNTY BOARD AND CITY COUNCIL WILL GO INTO CLOSED SESSION TO MEET WITH THE JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY AND A PRIVATE ATTORNEY TO DISCUSS MATTERS OF LITIGATION THAT ARE COVERED BY ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGE.    

                              

THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.   THE COUNCIL CALLED FOR NEW BIDS ON THE AIRPORT HANGAR PROJECT.   A RESOLUTION WAS APPROVED IN SUPPORT OF A STATE REDEVELOPMENT GRANT APPLICATION.   RYAN HILLESHEIM WAS HIRED AS A PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER.  HE WILL MOVE TO FULL-TIME STATUS IN MARCH.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON EFFORTS TO HIRE A NEW DIRECTOR FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER.   5 PEOPLE WERE INTERVIEWED.  A JOB OFFER WAS EXTENDED TO THE TOP CANDIDATE, WHO ASKED FOR TIME TO CONSIDER THE OFFER. 

 

THE CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR THE “WINTERFEST” CELEBRATION AT WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL.  THE KING CANDIDATES ARE TIM INGRAM, ETHAN MATHIS, OSMAR ROMAN PARADA, CARTER SQUIRES, JOSE CERDA AND BRANDYN SANOW.   THE QUEEN CANDIDATES ARE SYDNEY PAULSON, ELLIE WALLINGA, MADISON WILLARD, ABBY ELNESS, KATRINA LA CANNE AND MAURISSA ISAACS.  CORONATION WILL BE AT 10:00 MONDAY MORNING.  THERE WILL BE DAILY DRESS-UP THEMES AND ACTIVITIES NEXT WEEK.  A DANCE WILL BE HELD NEXT FRIDAY EVENING.   

 

THE MURRAY COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST MONTH.   FURTHER DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON WHETHER THE COUNTY SHOULD HIRE A NEW COUNTY COORDINATOR OR MOVE TO A FULL-TIME ADMINISTRATOR.  THE BOARD AGREED TO HOLD A WORKSHOP WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF MINNESOTA COUNTIES THIS FRIDAY.   THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED A CONTRACT WITH A CONSULTING FIRM TO PROVIDE TRANSITION SERVICES DURING THE SEARCH PROCESS.  A TRI-COUNTY RECYCLING CONTRACT WAS DISCONTINUED.
