THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT 9:00 THURSDAY MORNING IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER IN WINDOM.  THERE WILL BE A REPORT FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ON ACTIVITIES IN JACKSON COUNTY IN 2018.  THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER THE PURCHASE OF THREE VEHICLES.  THERE WILL BE A CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS STRATEGY FOR LABOR NEGOTIATIONS.   
 
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.   THE BOARD APPROVED THE RENEWAL OF LIQUOR, BEER AND WINE LICENSES.  MEMBERS OF AN EMPLOYEES’ UNION PRESENTED A PETITION, ASKING THE BOARD TO PURSUE A WAGE AND COMPENSATION STUDY.  A BID WAS AWARDED FOR A PROJECT TO SEAL-COAT ROUGHLY 61 MILES OF COUNTY ROADS AND HIGHWAYS.  THE BOARD VOTED TO CREATE A NEW POSITION FOR A FULL-TIME PARKS SUPERVISOR AND VOTED TO CREASE A POSITION FOR A DEPUTY AUDITOR-TREASURER.  2019 DITCH BUDGETS WERE APPROVED.   
 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HELD A SPECIAL MEETING WEDNESDAY.    BIDS WERE REVIEWED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.   THE BOARD APPROVED BIDS TOTALLING JUST OVER 16.3-MILLION DOLLARS.  TWO BIDS WERE REJECTED FOR BEING OVER BUDGET, AND THOSE ITEMS WILL BE RE-BID.   NEW QUOTES WILL ALSO BE REQUESTED ON SIX SMALLER ITEMS WHERE NO BIDS WERE RECEIVED.   IN GENERAL, THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO MEET ITS BUDGET GUIDELINES.   THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED THE SALE OF $2.5-MILLION IN BONDS, INCLUDING TAX ABATEMENT BONDS AND LONG-TERM FACILITIES MAINTENANCE BONDS.   THE INTEREST RATE ON THE BONDS WAS LOWER THAN EXPECTED, WHICH WILL SAVE THE DISTRICT ALMOST 70-THOUSAND-DOLLARS IN LOWER DEBT SERVICE. 
 
THE MT LAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS HOSTING A FUND-RAISING EVENT ON FRIDAY FROM 5:00 TO 7:00PM AT THE MT LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER.  THE COST IS $7 AT THE DOOR FOR A BAKED POTATO WITH TOPPINGS, A BEVERAGE AND A COOKIE.  BIDS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR SILENT AUCTION ITEMS.   PROCEEDS WILL BE USED TO HELP COVER THE COST OF RENTING THE ‘BARC’ AUDITORIUM IN WINDOM TO HOLD THE 2019 MISS MOUNTAIN LAKE PAGEANT IN JUNE.  THE MT LAKE HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE DUE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. 
THE WINDOM E-D-A HELD A BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK.   THE BOARD VOTED TO DISSOLVE THE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT WITH THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE PRAIRIE MEADOW SUB-DIVISION.  INFORMATION WAS PRESENTED ON THE PROPOSED CEMSTONE REDEVELOPMENT AREA.  A CERTIFIED APPRAISER HAS PROVIDED A REPORT WITH AN APPRAISAL FOR ONE LAKE LOT AND ONE BACK LOT.  THE E-D-A IS DISCUSSING POSSIBLE FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR THE SITE.   INFORMATION WAS ALSO PROVIDED ON A POSSIBLE REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT.  A DEVELOPER REPORTEDLY HAS A PURCHASE OPTION ON THE GUARDIAN INN PROPERTY.   
 
THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IS HOLDING A FUND-RAISING EVENT THIS WEEK ON BEHALF OF THE MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.  IT WILL BE HELD AT THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FROM 5:00 TO 7:00 SATURDAY NIGHT.  THEY WILL BE SERVING A DINNER WITH VERENEKE, GRAVY, HAM, GREEN BEANS AND MOOS.  A FREE-WILL DONATION WILL BE ACCEPTED.  10% OF THE PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE MT LAKE FOOD SHELF.  THE REMAINING FUNDS WILL BE USED BY THE MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN AID FOR PEOPLE IN THE KASAI PROVINCE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO IN AFRICA.
