WINDOM CITY RESIDENTS MAY RECYCLE MATTRESSES AND BOX SPRINGS AS PART OF THE CITY-WIDE CLEANUP.    MATTRESS AND CAR-SEAT RECYCLING WILL TAKE PLACE THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.  FOR MATTRESSES AND BOX SPRINGS, THERE WILL BE A DISCOUNTED FEE OF $7 FOR EACH PIECE, WITH A MAXIMUM OF FOUR TAGS PER ADDRESS AT THE DISCOUNTED RATE.  TAGS MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL OFFICE BY THURSDAY.  MATTRESSES AND BOX SPRINGS THAT DO NOT HAVE A TAG WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.  MATTRESSES SHOULD BE AT THE CURB BY 8:00 THURSDAY MORNING.   
 
AN AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE IS BEING HELD IN WINDOM TODAY.   BLOOD DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER FROM 1:30 UNTIL 6:30.  APPOINTMENTS ARE ENCOURGED BUT WALK-INS WILL BE WELCOME.   GO TO THE RED CROSS WEBSITE OR CALL 1-800-733-2767 FOR DETAILS.  A NUMBER OF DONOR INCENTIVES WILL BE OFFERED.  ALL DONORS WILL GO INTO A DRAWING FOR A CHANCE TO WIN ONE OF TWO $25 HY VEE GIFT CARDS.  ALL DONORS WILL RECEIVE A COUPON FOR A FREE SANDWICH AT HARDEE’S.  FIRST-TIME DONORS RECEIVE A COUPON FOR A LARGE CASEY’S PIZZA.  ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED.   
 
WINDOM HELD ITS CITY BOARD OF APPEAL AND EQUALIZATION ON MONDAY.    THE COUNTY ASSESSOR REPORTED THAT ASSESSED PROPERTY VALUES SAW AN INCREASE, WITH A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE FOR LAND VALUES.  SEVERAL PROPERTY OWNERS APPEARED BEFORE THE BOARD, REQUESTING ADJUSTMENTS IN THEIR ASSESSMENTS.   THE BOARD OF APPEAL VOTED TO MAKE REDUCTIONS IN THE ASSESSED VALUATION FOR NINE PARCELS.  THEY VOTED TO KEEP THE VALUATION THE SAME FOR TWO PARCELS.  ACTION ON THREE PARCELS WAS DEFERRED TO THE COUNTY BOARD OF APPEAL.  ALL OTHER ASSESSED VALUATIONS WERE ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED.  
 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.      THE BOARD VOTED TO APPROVE THE “BEGINDERGARTEN” PROGRAM FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.  THIS IS FOR CHILDREN 5-YEARS-OLD WHO MAY NOT BE READY FOR REGULAR KINDERGARTEN.   THERE WILL BE ONE SECTION OF BEGINDERGARTEN AND 4 SECTIONS OF KINDERGARTEN.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED A PROPOSAL FROM BANK MIDWEST FOR BANKING SERVICES.   BRUCE MEWS WAS HIRED AS A SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN.  THE BOARD APPROVED SOME ADJUSTMENTS IN BIG SCOPES FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT.  A SUMMARY OF PROJECT EXPENSES TO DATE WAS PRESENTED.   
 
 WINDOM RESIDENTS ARE ABLE TO RECYCLE APPLIANCES AND ELECTRONIC ITEMS DURING THE CITY-WIDE CLEANUP.  THERE WILL BE A FEE TO RECYCLE THOSE ITEMS.  YOU MUST PURCHASE A TAG AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL BY THIS THURSDAY.  ITEMS WILL BE PICKED UP ON SATURDAY.  FEES INCLUDE $15 TO RECYCLE A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE.  $10 FOR T-V SETS AND COMPUTER MONITORS, WITH A LIMIT OF FOUR TAGS PER ADDRESS AT THE DISCOUNTED RATE.  ALSO $10 FOR SMALL ELECTRONICS, WITH NO TAG LIMIT.   IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, CHECK WITH THE WINDOM CITY HALL.
