THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.    THE COUNCIL HEARD A PRESENTATION ON THE HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH ‘VAPING’ BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.  A RESOLUTION WAS APPROVED, DECLARING THE PRESENCE OF A SUB-STANDARD BUILDING IN A “TIF” DISTRICT.  THIS INVOLVES THE MAIN PLANT BUILDING FOR CEMSTONE.  THE COUNCIL VOTED TO SUBMIT A REQUEST TO THE STATE LEGISLATURE FOR THE 2020 BONDING BILL, SEEKING FUNDING FOR THE WATER DRAINAGE PROJECT IN THE RED LEAF COURT NEIGHBORHOOD.   
 
THE WINDOM E-D-A WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT NOON FRIDAY AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.   THE BOARD WILL HEAR THE ANNUAL REPORT FROM THE RIVER BLUFF TOWN HOMES.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON A DRAINAGE ISSUE AT THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK.  THE BOARD WILL DISCUSS THE PROPOSED CEMSTONE REDEVELOPMENT AREA.  THE BOARD WILL GO INTO CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS LAND NEGOTIATIONS INVOLVING A POSSIBLE LAND-SWAP AGREEMENT FOR PROPERTY AT THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK.   
 
THE 2019 WINDOM RIVERFEST CELEBRATION IS TAKING PLACE.    TODAY, THE HY VEE COMMUNITY COOKOUT WILL BE HELD FROM 5:00 UNTIL 8:00PM AT THE WINDOM AREA MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT AREA.  THERE WILL BE A VARIETY OF FAMILY FUN EVENTS AND ENTERTAINMENT.   THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY WILL BEGIN AT ABOUT 10:15 FRIDAY EVENING.  THE PHAT PHEASANT PUB WILL HAVE LIVE MUSIC IN THE OUTDOOR AREA.   RIVERFEST WILL CONTINUE WITH A FULL DAY OF EVENTS INCLUDING THE RIVERFEST PARADE, AND THE LIONS CLUB DANCE.   
 
KDOM RADIO SALUTES ITS “GOOD NEWS” BUSINESS OF THE DAY, M-V-T-V WIRELESS.  MV-T-V WIRELESS PROVIDES FIXED-POINT BROADBAND WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE.  ALL CUSTOMERS RECEIVE UNLIMITED DATA WITH NO LONG-TERM CONTRACTS.  NEW CUSTOMERS PAY A MEMBERSHIP AND ACTIVATION FEE.  VARIOUS PACKAGES ARE AVAILABLE AT DIFFERENT DOWNLOAD SPEEDS.   IN RECENT YEARS, M-V-T-V WIRELESS HAS ADDED MORE ACCESS POINTS TO EXPAND ITS SERVICE AREA AND REACH NEW CUSTOMERS, INCLUDING ODIN, BERGEN AND NORTHRUP.   
 
THE WINDOM RIVERFEST GRAND PARADE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY AFTERNOON.   THIS YEAR’S THEME IS “CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION.”  AMERICAN LEGION POSTS FROM AROUND THE STATE HAVE BEEN INVITED AND WILL BE FEATURED IN THE PARADE.   OVER 1,000 FLAGS WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO CHILDREN BEFORE THE PARADE; CHILDREN WILL BE INVITED TO WAVE THE FLAGS TO SALUTE LEGION MEMBERS.  THE RIVERFEST PARADE WILL INCLUDE A VARIETY OF MARCHING BANDS, DRUM CORPS UNITS, FLOATS, SHRINERS UNITS, HORSES AND CANDY. 
 
                                                            
THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.  THEY ACCEPTED A RESIGNATION FROM A FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER.   THE STREET DEPARTMENT REPORTED PLANS TO PURCHASE THE OLD FIRE TRUCK AND REFURBISH THE TRUCK FOR USE AS A SNOW HAULER.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE GREENHOUSE PROPERTY; THE CITY AND THE PROPERTY OWNERS ARE TRYING TO WORK OUT A DATE FOR A COURT HEARING.  A CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLANNING MEETING WAS SCHEDULED FOR JULY 16TH.  SOME TAX-FORFEITED PARCELS OF PROPERTY WERE DESIGNATED FOR SALE.      
 
THE WINDOM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS SPONSORING A “SHRED-IT” EVENT ON MONDAY.  INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES WILL HAVE ABLE TO HAVE PAPER DOCUMENTS AND RECORDS SHREDDED IN RETURN FOR A SMALL FEE. THE SHREDDING WILL TAKE PLACE MONDAY IN THE PARKING LOT AT WINFAIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.   FROM 11:00 TO 1:00, IT WILL BE OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.  FROM 1:00 TO 3:00, THE TIME IS RESERVED FOR CHAMBER MEMBERS AND BUSINESSES WHO HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT.  THE COST IS 30-CENTS A POUND FOR CHAMBER MEMBERS AND 35-CENTS FOR NON-MEMBERS, WITH A MINIMUM FEE OF 5-DOLLARS.
