THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE HOLDING ITS ANNUAL COMMUNITY DAY PROGRAM TODAY – THE FINAL DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.  STUDENTS WILL GO AROUND THE CITY DOING CLEAN-UP PROJECTS.  THE PROJECTS WILL BE CONDUCTED BY GRADE LEVEL, INCLUDING 4TH AND 5TH-GRADERS, MIDDLE-SCHOOL STUDENTS AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.  THEY WILL BE CLEANING UP CITY PARKS, BALL FIELDS, RECREATIONAL AREAS, SHELTERS AND PLAYGROUNDS.  THE DAY WILL END SHORTLY AFTER NOON WITH AN EARLY DISMISSAL.   
 
THE 23RD ANNUAL VICKIE SCHENDEL MEMORIAL FUN RUN WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY DURING THE RIVERFEST CELEBRATION, HOSTED BY THE WINDOM AREA HEALTH FOUNDATION.  PROCEEDS GO TO A FUND TO HELP WOMEN WITH THE COST OF MEDICAL CARE.  ALL EVENTS WILL START AND END AT ISLAND PARK, WITH REGISTRATION AT 7:30 SATURDAY MORNING.  THERE WILL BE A HALF-MILE KID’S RUN, A ONE-MILE RUN AND A 5-K RUN.  A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR WILL HAVE A FREE WARM-UP SESSION.  FREE KID’S FITNESS ACTIVITIES WILL BE OFFERED.  THERE WILL BE ENTERTAINMENT WITH A D-J.   
 
LET’S CHECK SOME OF THE SPECIAL EVENTS TAKING PLACE IN JUNE.    WINDOM IS HOLDING RIVERFEST THIS WEEKEND.  WORTHINGTON IS HOLDING THE ANNUAL WINDSURFING REGATTA AND MUSIC FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND.  THE LAKEFIELD SUMMERFEST WILL BE HELD FROM JUNE 11TH THROUGH THE 16TH.   THE FULDA WOOD DUCK FESTIVAL TAKES PLACE JUNE 12TH THROUGH THE 16TH.  THE MT LAKE POW-WOW WILL BE HELD FROM JUNE 14TH THROUGH THE 18TH.  LATER IN THE MONTH, THE SPRINGFIELD RIVERSIDE DAYS AND WESTBROOK FUN DAYS WILL BE HELD.   
 
A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD IS BEING HELD TODAY.  THE BOARD WILL APPROVE A LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.  DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON A POSITION FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.  THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD WILL SPEND A PORTION OF THE MEETING IN CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS. 
  
THE HERON LAKE CITY COUNCIL IS MEETING THIS EVENING.     THE 2018 CITY AUDIT REPORT WILL BE PRESENTED.   THERE WILL BE A REPORT FROM THE JACKSON COUNTY VETERANS’ SERVICE OFFICER.  THE COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS A MODIFIED AGREEMENT FOR A BUSINESS LOAN FROM THE REVOLVING LOAN FUND.  THEY WILL REVIEW CONTRACTS FOR AN INDUSTRIAL WATER SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM.  THERE WILL BE A REPORT FROM SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA BROADBAND SERVICES.  THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL PRESENT AN APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP. 
 
                                  
THE MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT IS HOLDING A GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY FOR THE BUILDING REMODELING PROJECT.    THE GROUND-BREAKING WILL TAKE PLACE AT 10:00 THURSDAY MORNING ON THE SOUTH LAWN OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING, AT 450-12TH STREET IN MT LAKE.  THE PROJECT CALLS FOR THE 1904 SECTION OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING TO BE DEMOLISHED AND REPLACED WITH NEW CLASSROOMS AND OTHER FACILITIES.  THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT IS ESTIMATED AT 13.6-MILLION DOLLARS.  CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN THIS SUMMER.   
 
THE MONTHLY WEATHER STATISTICS HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOR THE CITY OF WINDOM IN MAY.   TOTAL RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH CAME TO 6.69.”  FOR THE YEAR, WINDOM HAS NOW RECEIVED TOTAL PRECIP OF 18.18” – OVER 4-½ INCHES MORE THAN AT THE SAME TIME LAST YEAR. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE IN MAY WAS 83 DEGREES.  THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 64-DEGREES – OVER 12 DEGREES COOLER THAN LAST YEAR.  THE LOW TEMP IN MAY WAS 36 DEGREES, WITH AN AVERAGE DAILY LOW READING OF 46.5 DEGREES – 9 DEGREES COOLER THAN LAST YEAR.   
  
THE FULDA CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.  THERE WAS A PRELIMINARY REVIEW OF THE 2018 AUDIT REPORT.  THE CITY ENDED THE YEAR WITH A BUDGET SURPLUS.   SOME OF THE FUNDS WILL BE ALLOCATED TOWARD VARIOUS PROJECTS. THE CITY HAD REACHED AN AGREEMENT TO SHARE A POLICE OFFICER WITH THE CITY OF SLAYTON.  AN OPENING FOR THE POSITION WILL BE ADVERTISED.  A CELL-PHONE ALLOWANCE WAS APPROVED FOR THE DEPUTY CITY CLERK.  THE COUNCIL REVIEWED AND APPROVED NINE BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATIONS.
