THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED THAT A WEAK TORNADO DID TOUCH DOWN BRIEFLY IN WINDOM ON SATURDAY.   THE TORNADO IS BEING DESIGNATED AS AN “EF-O” – THE LOWEST RATING ON THE TORNADO INTENSITY SCALE.   THE STORM HIT AT ABOUT 6:15 SATURDAY EVENING.  THE PATH OF THE STORM INCLUDED COTTONWOOD LAKE, 15TH STREET AND THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.  DAMAGE WAS REPORTED TO SIX DIFFERENT BUILDINGS AT THE FAIRGROUNDS, INCLUDING THE CHILDREN’S BARNYARD AND THE HOG BARN.   
 
THE 2019 MURRAY COUNTY FAIR IS TAKING PLACE THIS WEEK AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN SLAYTON.   TUESDAY IS AN ENTRY DAY.  ON WEDNESDAY, THERE WILL BE A BEAN-BAG TOURNAMENT AND MUSIC IN THE BEER GARDEN.  THURSDAY’S LINEUP INCLUDES A RIBEYE SANDWICH SUPPER, THE GREAT PLAINS TRACTOR PULL AND THE ‘SUMMER FUN’ PARTY.  ON FRIDAY, THERE WILL BE A PORK LOIN SUPPER, STOCK CAR RACING AND FREE MUSIC.   THE MURRAY COUNTY FAIR CONTINUES SATURDAY WITH THE PRAIRIE DAYS PARADE IN DOWNTOWN SLAYTON, LIVE MUSIC, AND THE ENDURO CAR RACE IN THE GRANDSTAND.  
 
THE WINDOM CITY PLANNING COMMISSION MEETS AT 7:00 THIS EVENING AT THE CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.    NEW COMMISSION MEMBER JARED BALOUN WILL TAKE THE OATH OF OFFICE.  A PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD ON A ZONING APPLICATION FROM THE AVERA MEDICAL GROUP.  AVERA IS SEEKING A VARIANCE FROM THE REGULATIONS ON OFF-STREET PARKING FOR THE SITE OF ITS NEW MEDICAL CLINIC ON HIGHWAY 71 NORTH.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE PLANNING COMMISSION WILL DISCUSS THE FEES THAT WILL BE CHARGED FOR A RIGHT-OF-WAY PERMIT.   
 
THE FULDA CITY COUNCIL HOLDS A REGULAR MEETING AT 6:30 THIS EVENING AT THE CITY HALL BUILDING.   THE S-E-H ENGINEERING FIRM WILL REPORT ON THE FINAL COST OF THE SEWER PROJECT.  THE COUNCIL WILL REVIEW SEVERAL APPLICATIONS FOR BUILDING PERMITS.  FURTHER DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON A PROPOSAL TO ALLOW ALCOHOL IN THE CITY PARK FOR SPECIAL EVENTS.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE FROM THE AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT.  THE COUNCIL WILL HEAR AN UPDATE ON TELEPHONE AND INTERNET SERVICE.  THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL HAVE A REPORT.  
 
THE 2019 COTTONWOOD COUNTY FAIR IS BEING HELD AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN WINDOM.   TODAY IS AN ENTRY DAY.  WEDNESDAY EVENTS WILL INCLUDE THE CENTURY FARM AWARDS.  THERE WILL BE A FREE SHOW IN THE ARENA WITH MUSIC FROM SEAN BENZ AND A COMEDIAN.  ON THURSDAY, THERE WILL BE A FREE SHOW IN THE ARENA WITH BOB AND THE BEACHCOMBERS.  FRIDAY WILL HAVE THE RANCH WORKING RODEO AT THE ARENA.  ON SATURDAY, EVENTS WILL INCLUDE A TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULL AND THE MN EXTREME BULL-RIDING SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT.   
   
THE 2019 MURRAY COUNTY FAIR IS TAKING PLACE THIS WEEK IN SLAYTON.    TODAY WILL BE AN ENTRY DAY.  THERE WILL BE A 4-H HORSE SHOW IN THE MORNING.   THE PORK BURGER AND MALT STAND WILL BE OPEN FOR LUNCH AND DINNER.  A 5-K FUN RUN AND WALK WILL BE HELD AT 6:00 TONIGHT. 
 
A NEW SCHOOL YEAR IS SET TO BEGIN IN THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT.  DUE TO CONSTRUCTION ISSUES, WINDOM IS STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR A WEEK EARLIER THAN USUAL.  WORKSHOPS FOR NEW TEACHERS WILL HELD THIS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.  STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAYS WILL BE HELD NEXT MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.  MONDAY, AUGUST 26TH WILL BE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS FOR THE 4TH THROUGH 12TH GRADES.  PRE-SCHOOL THROUGH THE 3RD GRADE WILL HAVE PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES ON THE 26TH AND 27TH.  THEIR FIRST DAY OF CLASS WILL BE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28TH.
