THE SOUTHWEST CRISIS CENTER OFFICE IN WINDOM IS HOSTING SOME EVENTS THIS WEEK.   OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH.   PURPLE RIBBONS HAVE BEEN TIED TO LIGHT POLES AROUND THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE IN WINDOM.  TODAY, A COOKIE SOCIAL WILL BE HELD AT THE WINDOM PUBLIC LIBRARY FROM 2:00 UNTIL 5:30PM.  THE CRISIS CENTER WILL HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT ITS SERVICES.  ON THURSDAY, THE CRISIS CENTER WILL HOLD AN OPEN HOUSE AT ITS OFFICE – AT 1043 4TH AVENUE – FROM NOON UNTIL 4:00PM.  PEOPLE ARE INVITED TO VISIT THE OFFICE AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CRISIS CENTER AND ITS PROGRAMS.   
 
THIS IS HOMECOMING WEEK AT WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL.   CORONATION WILL BE HELD AT 8:00 TONIGHT.   THE THEME IS “HOLLYWOOD HOMECOMING.”   ADMISSION IS $1 OR FREE WITH A HOMECOMING BUTTON.  ENTERTAINMENT WILL BE PROVIDED BY ASHLEY WILDE AND VICTORIA SCHUTZ.  THE CANDIDATES WILL BE DOING A DANCE ACTIVITY WITH BOYS VERSUS GIRLS.  THE “WAKE-UP” VIDEO WILL BE SHOWN.   FOR THE CORONATION, CANDIDATES WHO RECEIVE AN “OSCAR” TROPHY WILL BE ELIMINATED.  THE KING AND QUEEN WILL RECEIVE A “STAR” TROPHY.   
 
THE WINDOM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETS AT 7:00 THIS EVENING AT THE CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.   COMMISSION MEMBERS WILL DISCUSS GOAL-SETTING FOR THE NEXT YEAR.   THEY WILL DISCUSS THE FEES THAT ARE BEING CHARGED FOR VARIOUS SERVICES AND LICENSES.  FURTHER DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON THE CITY’S PLAN FOR DEALING WITH BLIGHTED PROPERTIES.  THE NOVEMBER MEETING DATE FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION MAY BE CHANGED, OR THE MEETING MAY BE MOVED TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION.   
 
THE WINDOM CITY WATER DEPARTMENT WILL BE FLUSHING FIRE HYDRANTS THIS WEEK.    THIS IS A REGULAR PART OF THE CITY’S PROGRAM OF MAINTENANCE FOR WATER LINES AND FIRE HYDRANTS.  DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES WILL BE OPENING HYDRANTS DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS.  WHEN HYDRANTS ARE BEING FLUSHED, ITS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU AVOID DOING LAUNDRY.  THE FLUSHING PROCESS WILL STIR UP SEDIMENT IN THE PIPES, WHICH MAY CAUSE LAUNDRY TO BE STAINED.  THE WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK.   
 
FULDA HIGH SCHOOL IS HOLDING ITS HOMECOMING THIS WEEK.   CORONATION WAS HELD MONDAY MORNING, WITH KLOE GEHL CROWNED AS HOMECOMING QUEEN, AND MASON KUNNERTH CHOSEN AS KING.  ACTIVITIES WILL CONTINUE THIS WEEK WITH DAILY DRESS-UP THEMES.  THE HERON LAKE-OKABENA/FULDA VOLLEYBALL TEAM HAS A HOME MATCH TONIGHT IN FULDA AGAINST PIPESTONE.   ON FRIDAY, THERE WILL BE “RAIDER TIME” COMPETITIONS FOLLOWED BY CLASS AWARDS.  THE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME AND DANCE WILL BE HELD FRIDAY EVENING. 
 
A COMMITTEE OF THE STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE VISITING THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY.  THE STATE HOUSE CAPITAL INVESTMENT COMMITTEE IS TOURING SW MN TO EVALUATE PROJECTS THAT ARE UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR FUNDING THROUGH THE STATE BONDING BILL.  STATE REPRESENTATIVE ROD HAMILTON OF MT LAKE WILL ALSO BE PART OF THE GROUP.  THEY WILL BE MAKING STOPS IN WINDOM AND AT THE OFFICES OF THE RED ROCK RURAL WATER SYSTEM WEDNESDAY MORNING, AND AT THE JEFFERS PETROGLYPHS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
