Local News Headlines – Wednesday, October 9th

A COMMITTEE OF THE STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE VISITING THE AREA ON WEDNESDAY.  THE STATE HOUSE CAPITAL INVESTMENT COMMITTEE IS TOURING SW MN TO EVALUATE PROJECTS THAT ARE UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR FUNDING THROUGH THE STATE BONDING BILL.  STATE REPRESENTATIVE ROD HAMILTON OF MT LAKE WILL ALSO BE PART OF THE GROUP.  THEY WILL BE MAKING STOPS IN WINDOM AND AT THE OFFICES OF THE RED ROCK RURAL WATER SYSTEM WEDNESDAY MORNING, AND AT THE JEFFERS PETROGLYPHS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. 
 
A CITY-WIDE FIRE DRILL WILL BE HELD TONIGHT IN WINDOM.    STARTING AT 6:45 THIS EVENING, THE WINDOM FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL HOLD “OPERATION EDITH,” WHICH STANDS FOR ‘EXIT DRILL IN THE HOME.’  FIRE TRUCKS WILL BE DRIVING DOWN EVERY STREET IN THE CITY WITH LIGHTS AND SIRENS ON.   ALL WINDOM RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PRACTICE THEIR PERSONAL ESCAPE PLAN.  EVERY FAMILY SHOULD HAVE A PLAN TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, AND HAVE A DESIGNATED PLACE TO MEET OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE TO MAKE SURE ALL FAMILY MEMBERS ARE SAFE.   
 
THE WINDOM PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETS AT 5:30 THIS AFTERNOON AT THE CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.   FURTHER DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON PLANS FOR A NEW DOG PARK, INCLUDING FENCING AROUND THE PARK AREA AND RULES FOR THE USE OF THE DOG PARK.  THE CITY ARENA WILL HAVE AN UPDATE ON EFFORTS TO GET THE ICE RINK READY FOR THE WINTER SEASON.  THE PARKS SUPERINTENDENT WILL HAVE AN UPDATE.   THE COMMISSION WILL HEAR A REPORT ON A PROPOSAL FROM AVERA MEDICAL TO DONATE FILL FROM ITS BUILDING PROJECT.  THE FILL COULD BE USED TO CREATE SPACE FOR MORE FIELDS AT THE WINDOM RECREATIONAL AREA. 
 
THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET LAST WEEK.  THE BOARD HIRED A FIRM TO RE-DESIGN THE COUNTY WEBSITE.   THEY CALLED FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON AN APPLICATION FOR A RESIDENTIAL HOUSE TAX ABATEMENT FOR A NEW HOUSE AT STRING LAKE.  THE COUNTY ENGINEER CALLED FOR BIDS ON A NEW CONTRACT TO SUPPLY GASOLINE AND DIESEL FUEL.  A NOTICE OF RETIREMENT WAS ACCEPTED FROM THE DEPUTY AUDITOR-TREASURER.   THE BOARD APPROVED THE HIRING OF FOUR PART-TIME JAILER-DISPATCHERS.  THE I-S-G ENGINEERING FIRM WAS HIRED TO EVALUATE THREE POSSIBLE SITES FOR A NEW COUNTY HIGHWAY SHOP. 
 
A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FULDA CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD THIS WEEK.   THE MAYOR REVIEWED JOB EVALUATION REPORTS FOR TWO CITY EMPLOYEES; THE REPORTS WERE APPROVED.   THE COUNCIL REVIEWED A QUOTE FOR A WEB-BASED COMPUTER PROGRAM THAT COULD BE USED TO MANAGE CITY ASSETS.  THE COUNCIL VOTED TO REJECT THE PROPOSAL DUE TO THE PROJECTS COST BEING OVER 22-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.   A TOTAL OF 6 BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATIONS WERE REVIEWED AND APPROVED.   THE COUNCIL HEARD COMMENTS FROM A REPRESENTATIVE OF BONDIN TOWNSHIP.  
                                                                  
THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT 9:00 THURSDAY MORNING AT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER IN WINDOM.   THE ANNUAL AUDIT REPORT WILL BE PRESENTED.  THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL HAVE AN UPDATE ON THE ‘PRIME WEST’ COUNTY-BASED PURCHASING PROGRAM.  THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT WILL REPORT ON AN AGREEMENT WITH THE FAMILY INVESTMENT PROGRAM.   THE PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT WILL REVIEW A NEW MASTER CONTRACT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.   THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON THE 2020 BUDGET.
