THE “FESTIVAL OF TREES” WILL OPEN THIS WEEKEND AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM IN WINDOM.    LOCAL CIVIC GROUPS, ORGANIZATIONS, CHURCH GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS EACH SET UP AN INDIVIDUALLY DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREE.  AN OPENING RECEPTION WILL BE HELD THIS SUNDAY FROM 2:00 TO 4:00PM.  PEOPLE MAY VIEW THE TREES WHILE ENJOYING COFFEE AND CHRISTMAS TREATS.  PEOPLE MAY VOTE FOR THEIR FAVORITE TREE BY DROPPING A QUARTER IN A CONTAINER LOCATED NEXT TO EACH TREE.  THE TOP THREE TREES WILL RECEIVE PRIZES OF CHAMBER BUCKS FOR THE SPONSORING PERSON OR ORGANIZATION.   
 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET EARLIER THIS WEEK.    THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE RESIDENTIAL HOUSING TAX ABATEMENT PROGRAM.  THE PROGRAM IS EXPIRING THIS YEAR, AND THE WINDOM E-D-A IS RECOMMENDING THAT THE PROGRAM BE EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED ITS ACADEMIC AND POLICY GOALS FOR THE NEXT YEAR.   POSSIBLE GOALS INCLUDE WORKING ON THE CAREER PATHWAYS PROGRAM, AND CREATING NEW METHODS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS WHO HAVE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED ITS COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS.  THE NEXT MEETING OF THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12TH. 
 
A LIVE NATIVITY IS BEING OFFERED IN LAKEFIELD.  THE EVENT WILL BE HELD SATURDAY FROM 3:30 TO 7:00PM AT THE IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL ACTIVITY CENTER AT 620 BUSH STREET IN LAKEFIELD.  THE LIVE NATIVITY WILL FEATURE SCENES FROM THE BIBLE, FROM ADAM AND EVE TO THE BIRTH OF JESUS.  THERE WILL BE MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT.  THE IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH WILL BE SERVING A MEAL WITH BARBEQUES, CHIPS, COOKIES AND A BEVERAGE.  A FREE-WILL DONATION WILL BE ACCEPTED.  FUNDS WILL GO TO SUPORT THE “RAISE THE ROOF” TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.   
 
DONATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY CHRISTMAS CHEER BOX PROGRAM.  THIS IS A GIFT COLLECTION PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES IN NEED, SPONSORED BY THE WINDOM WOMEN OF TODAY AND THE MT LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT.  THEY ARE ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF NEW TOYS, GIFTS, HATS, MITTENS AND CLOTHING ITEMS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN 18-AND-YOUNGER.  COLLECTION BOXES MAY BE FOUND AT A NUMBER OF LOCATIONS IN WINDOM, MT LAKE, STORDEN AND JEFFERS.  CASH DONATIONS WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED.  FAMILIES WHO WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE GIFTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN NEED TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 2ND.   
 
THE WINDOM AREA CHORDHUSTLERS CHORUS WILL BE HOLDING ITS ANNUAL FOOD SHELF BENEFIT CONCERT ON SUNDAY.   THE CONCERT WILL BE HELD AT THE BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH IN LAKEFIELD AT 2:00 SUNDAY AFTERNOON.  THE CHORDHUSTLERS WILL BE PERFORMING TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY SONGS WITH BOTH POPULAR AND SACRED NUMBERS.  IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE CONCERT, PLEASE BRING A NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEM OR MAKE A CASH DONATION TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL FOOD SHELVES IN COTTONWOOD AND JACKSON COUNTY.  AS PART OF THIS YEAR’S EVENT, A COMMUNITY CHORUS WILL BE PERFORMING. LOCAL RESIDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.
