SANTA CLAUS WILL BE COMING TO WINDOM THIS WEEK.    SANTA CLAUS WILL ARRIVE ON A WINDOM FIRE TRUCK AT ABOUT 9:50 SATURDAY MORNING AND RIDING AROUND THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE.  SANTA WILL BE VISITING WITH CHILDREN IN THE ROTUNDA OF THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY COURTHOUSE FROM 10:00 TO 1:00PM.  PARENTS MAY BRING THEIR CHILDREN FOR PICTURES WITH SANTA, AND TO GIVE SANTA THEIR GIFT LIST.  THE VIST FROM SANTA IS BEING SUPPORTED BY ‘BARC’, THE REMICK FOUNDATION, THE WINDOM FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.  SANTA WILL BE APPEARING AT OTHER EVENTS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. 
 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.   THE 2019 DISTRICT AUDIT REPORT WAS PRESENTED.  THE DISTRICT ENDED THE LAST FISCAL YEAR WITH A SURPLUS.  THE FUND BALANCE INCREASED BY ROUGHLY $242-THOUSAND.  THE UNASSIGNED FUND BALANCE WAS JUST OVER $2.5-MILLION.  LONG-TERM DEBT TOTALLED $32.6-MILLION WITH OVER $31-MILLION IN BONDS TO FINANCE SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECTS.  IN OTHER BUSINESS, A REVISED BUDGET WAS APPROVED FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.  THE BUDGET REFLECTS NEW HIRES AND THE USE OF BUS RESERVE FUNDS FOR CAPITAL PURCHASES.   THE BOARD REVIEWED A POLICY ON SERVICE ANIMALS.   
 
THE GOVERNING BOARD FOR WINDOM AREA HEALTH MET THIS WEEK.   THE OCTOBER FINANCIAL REPORT SHOWED A NET GAIN FOR THE MONTH OF JUST OVER $107-THOUSAND.  THROUGH THE 1ST 6 MONTHS OF THE FISCAL YEAR, WINDOM AREA HEALTH IS NOW SHOWING A NET GAIN OF $133-THOUSAND.  WINDOM AREA HEALTH IS PREPARING TO OFFER SOME NEW SERVICES.  DIRECT ACCESS LAB SERVICES WILL BE AVAILABLE STARTING IN DECEMBER.  PATIENTS WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE A NUMBER OF BASIC LAB TESTS PERFORMED ON A CASH BASIS.  IN JANUARY, MOBILE 3-D MAMMOGRAPHY SERVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE TWO DAYS A MONTH, STARTING ON JANUARY 6TH.   
 
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.    BIDS WERE APPROVED FOR ROOF REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR HANDLING UNITS AT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE.  THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED A PLAN FOR TUCK-POINTING WORK AT THE COURTHOUSE.  THE BOARD APPROVED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE SOUTHWEST REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION TO ADMINISTER THE REVOLVING LOAN FUND.  A LEASE AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED WITH THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY FOR OFFICE SPACE.  THE BOARD SPENT A PORTION OF THE MEETING IN CLOSED SESSION FOR LABOR NEGOTIATIONS. 
 
THE “FESTIVAL OF TREES” WILL OPEN THIS WEEKEND AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM IN WINDOM.    LOCAL CIVIC GROUPS, ORGANIZATIONS, CHURCH GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS EACH SET UP AN INDIVIDUALLY DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREE.  AN OPENING RECEPTION WILL BE HELD THIS SUNDAY FROM 2:00 TO 4:00PM.  PEOPLE MAY VIEW THE TREES WHILE ENJOYING COFFEE AND CHRISTMAS TREATS.  PEOPLE MAY VOTE FOR THEIR FAVORITE TREE BY DROPPING A QUARTER IN A CONTAINER LOCATED NEXT TO EACH TREE.  THE TOP THREE TREES WILL RECEIVE PRIZES OF CHAMBER BUCKS FOR THE SPONSORING PERSON OR ORGANIZATION.
