THE MT LAKE SCHOOL BOARD HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.    FOUR PEOPLE WERE HIRED AS PART-TIME SUMMER CUSTODIAL HELP.  THE BOARD APPROVED A SCHEDULE FOR FEES FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR INCLUDING FEES FOR ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION, SCHOOL LUNCH PRICES AND FEES FOR THE PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM.  THE BOARD APPROVED A PROPOSED FOOD SERVICE BUDGET FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.  THE BUDGET DOES NOT PROJECT ANY PRICE INCREASES.  THE SCHOOL CALENDAR WAS AMENDED.  THE FINAL STUDENT DAY WILL BE MAY 22ND; THE FINAL DAY FOR TEACHERS WILL BE MAY 29TH.  THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE ON SEPTEMBER 8TH.   THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE BUILDING PROJECT. 
 
A REGULAR MEETING OF THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD WAS HELD THIS WEEK.   THEY RECEIVED A NOTICE OF RETIREMENT FROM LONG-TIME CHOIR DIRECTOR BOB VAN MAASDAM.  AN AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED FOR THE DISTRICT TO PURCHASE ALL OF ITS ATHLETIC UNIFORMS THROUGH A COMPANY FROM NEW ULM.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE PURCHASE OF A NEW MATH CURRICULUM FOR PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS.  THE BOARD HEARD COMMENTS FROM THE PARENT OF A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR.   THEY APPROVED A LIST OF SENIORS WHO ARE CANDIDATES FOR GRADUATION.   
 
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.   KIM HAKEN WAS HIRED AS A PART-TIME CLERK AT THE RIVER BEND LIQUOR STORE. A DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON THE PROPER USE OF ZONING AND MOVING PERMITS.   THE COUNCIL APPROVED A PLAN FOR THE SOFT RE-OPENING OF CITY FACILITIES.  THE COUNCIL VOTED TO MAKE A DONATION OF $25,000 TO THE WINDOM AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AS PART OF A FUND TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES.  THE COUNCIL APPROVED A PLAN TO HAVE OUTDOOR PICNIC TABLES NEXT TO RESTAURANTS SO PEOPLE CAN GET TAKE-OUT ORDERS AND HAVE A PLACE TO EAT.   A CHANGE ORDER WAS APPROVED FOR THE NEW TENNIS COURTS, MOVING THE END DATE TO SEPTEMBER 4TH.    
 
A REGULAR MEETING OF THE HERON LAKE-OKABENA SCHOOL BOARD WAS HELD THIS WEEK.  THE BOARD ACCEPTED NOTICES OF RETIREMENT FROM HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS BRENDA RENCZYKOWSKI AND MATT PRUNTY.  A RESIGNATION WAS ACCEPTED FROM TEACHER CORY MILLER.  A NEW FULL-TIME PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER WAS HIRED.  THE BOARD APPROVED AN AGREEMENT WITH GREATER MINNESOTA FAMILY SERVICES FOR A HALF-TIME MENTAL HEALTH WORKER.  THE BOARD APPROVED A NEW TWO-YEAR CONTRACT FOR CUSTODIAL SERVICES.  THE BOARD AGREED TO ADD A NEW GRADING OPTION WITH A “NO-CREDIT’ OPTION THAT WILL NOT IMPACT A STUDENT’S GRADE POINT AVERAGE.   THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON PLANS FOR GRADUATION.   
 
THE WINDOM CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MET LAST WEEK.   UPDATES WERE HEARD ON PLANS FOR OPENING UP OR USING CITY FACILITIES INCLUDING THE CITY ARENA, THE SWIMMING POOL, THE SAND VOLLEYBALL COURTS AND SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAMS.   IT WAS NOTED THAT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW TENNIS COURTS HAS BEEN MOVED BACK, WITH THE CONTRACT EXTENDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 4TH.  COTTONWOOD COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE REPORTED THAT THEY HAVE RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR THE FENCE AROUND THE NEW DOG PARK.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF CITY PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS.  A DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON THE CONDITION OF THE ISLAND PARK SHELTER HOUSE. 
THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT IS HOLDING A GRADUATION PARADE ON SATURDAY.   THE PARADE WILL GO THROUGH LAMBERTON, STORDEN, JEFFERS AND SANBORN.  THE EVENT WILL BEGIN AT 2:00 SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN LAMBERTON.  GRADUATES WILL RECEIVE THEIR DIPLOMAS NEAR THE ‘EAGLE’ STATUES ON MAIN STREET.  EACH GRADUATE WILL BE IN THEIR OWN VEHICLE.  DURING EACH LEG OF THE PARADE, THE GRADUATES WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET OUT OF THEIR VEHICLES AND WALK IN FRONT OF THE CAR FOR A FEW BLOCKS.   LOCAL RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SIT OR STAND ALONG THE PARADE ROUTES AND SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE 2020 GRADUATING CLASS OF RED ROCK CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. 
 
THE WINDOM AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY HAS AN UPDATE ON THIS YEAR’S “POPPY DAY” OBSERVANCE.”  THE AUXILIARY TYPICALLY HOLDS A POPPY DAY PROGRAM IN MAY, DISTRIBUTING HANDMADE RED PAPER POPPIES AND ACCEPTING DONATIONS.  DUE TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS, THE LEGION AUXILIARY WILL NOT BE DISTRIBUTING POPPIES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC THIS MONTH.  THEY HOPE TO BE ABLE TO HOLD THE PROGRAM AT A LATER DATE.  POPPIES ARE BEING DISTRIBUTED IN MAY TO RESIDENTS OF THE SOGGE GOOD SAMARITAN CENTER, MIKKELSON MANOR, REMICK RIDGE AND PINE VIEW ASSISTED LIVING.  THE RED POPPY HAS BEEN THE OFFICIAL FLOWER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SINCE 1921.
