State Amateur Baseball

The 2020 Class “C” State Amateur Baseball tournament began last weekend.   
 
The tournament began with 48 teams playing a single-elimination format. 
 
Games are being played at Riverside Park in Springfield and the Milroy Yankees Field. 
 
For area teams, 3 teams were eliminated after losing in the first round:
The Hanska Lakers lost to the Foley Lumber Jacks 8-7.
The Hadley Buttermakers lost to the Randall Cubs 4-3.
And the New Ulm Brewers lost to the Prior Lake Mudcats 13-10. 
 The Luverne Redbirds advanced by defeating the Mora Blue Devils 5-3. 
 
Teams that were seeded #1 in their Regions received a bye in the 1st round, and begin play next weekend. 
Area teams receiving byes included the Fairmont Martins and Lamberton Long Sox.   
 After the results of the opening weekend,
Fairmont will play the Waconia Lakers  Friday night in Milory. 
 Lamberton will face the Union Hill Bulldogs   Friday night in Springfield.   
 
After winning in the 1st round, the Luverne Redbirds will play the Young America Cardinals Sunday afternoon in Springfield.  
 Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will be capped at 250 people per game. The ticket price is $7.   Games will also be available to watch online for a fee through Prep Spotlight TV.    
The State Class “C” Amateur Baseball tournament continues with a final round of games September 5th, 6th and 7th.   The Championship game will be played Labor Day afternoon in Springfield.
