THE 2021 WINDOM RIVERFEST CELEBRATION CONTINUES.     THE LINEUP OF EVENTS FOR TODAY INCLUDES – THE COMMUNITY COOKOUT WIL BE HELD AT TEGELS PARK FROM 5:00 UNTIL 8:00PM.  THE PHAT PHEASANT PUB WILL SPONSOR A BEER GARDEN FROM 5:00 UNTIL 11:00PM.  A CRAFT SHOW AND VENDOR SALE WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT TEGELS PARK UNTIL 8:00 TONIGHT. THE RIVERFEST FIREWORKS DISPLAY WILL TAKE PLACE AT COTTONWOOD LAKE AT ABOUT 10:15 THIS EVENING.  SATURDAY’S EVENTS WILL INCLUDE THE SAND VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT, THE ALL-CLASS REUNION, FISHING CONTEST, TURTLE RACES, PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT, CRAFT AND VENDOR SALE, FOOD VENDORS, THE RIVERFEST PARADE, AND THE LIONS CLUB PORK-CHOP FEED AND STREET DANCE SATURDAY NIGHT. 
 
THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER COMMISSION MET THIS WEEK.  COMMISSION MEMBERS REVIEWED RENTAL SURVEYS FROM TWO RECENT EVENTS.  ALL OF THE COMMENTS WERE POSITIVE.  THE CENTER DIRECTOR HAD AN UPDATE ON THE REPLACEMENT OF A 10-TON HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT.  THE UNIT HAS BEEN ORDERED BUT THE SUPPLIER HAS NOT INDICATED WHEN IT WILL BE DELIVERED OR INSTALLED.  A SHORT DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON COVID-19 RELIEF FUNDING.  THE CENTER MIGHT BE ELIGIBLE FOR SOME FUNDING TO OFFSET LOSSES IN REVENUE WHEN IT WAS FORCED TO CLOSE DURING THE PANDEMIC.  A LIST OF SCHEDULED EVENTS WAS REVIEWED.  THE FINANCIAL REPORT WAS POSITIVE.  
 
THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES IS HOLDING THE ANNUAL “TAKE A KID FISHING WEEKEND.”  FROM FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY, MINNESOTA RESIDENTS MAY FISH WITHOUT A LICENSE – IF THEY HAVE A CHILD WHO IS 15-OR-YOUNGER FISHING WITH THEM.  BOYS OR GIRLS WHO ARE 15-OR-YOUNGER DO NOT NEED A LICENSE TO FISH AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.  ANYONE WHO IS 16-OR-OLDER MAY PURCHASE FISHING LICENSES ONLINE AT THE D-N-R WEBSITE OR AT A LICENSED OUTLET.  STATE RESIDENTS MAY GENERALLY FISH IN STATE PARKS WITHOUT A LICENSE, AS LONG AS A TROUT STAMP IS NOT REQUIRED.  THE D-N-R WEBSITE INCLUDE BASIC INFORMATION ON FISHING RULES AND REGULATIONS. 
 
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.  THE FEDERATED RURAL ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION DISCUSSED THE POTENTIAL USE OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR A BROADBAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.  THE BOARD APPROVED AN UPDATED POLICY ON THE USE OF TAX ABATEMENTS.  THE POSITION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR WAS RE-CLASSIFIED TO A FULL-TIME POSITION AT 40-HOURS-A-WEEK.  THE BOARD APPROVED AN AGREEMENT WITH UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD FOR A RAIL CROSSING SIGNAL ON COUNTY HIGHWAY 24.  APPROVAL WAS GIVEN FOR THE COUNTY TO TRANSFER OWNERSJHIP OF SPARKS PARK FROM THE COUNTY TO THE CITY OF LAKEFIELD.   
 
COTTONWOOD COUNTY WILL BE HOLDING ITS BOARD OF APPEAL AND EQUALIZATION.  THE COUNTY BOARD OF APPEAL WILL TAKE PLACE AT 6:00PM ON TUESDAY, JUNE 15TH AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY COURTHOUSE.  AT A BOARD OF APPEAL, PROPERTY OWNERS HAVE THE ABILITY TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ASSESSED VALUATION OF THEIR PROPERTY AND MAY APPEAL TO THE BOARD TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE VALUATION FOR A SPECIFIC PARCEL.  IN ORDER TO APPEAR BEFORE THE COUNTY BOARD OF APPEAL, A PROPERTY OWNER MUST FIRST HAVE APPEARED AT THEIR LOCAL TOWNSHIP OR CITY BOARD OF APPEAL.  IF THEIR APPEAL WAS NOT GRANTED, THE PROPERTY OWNER MAKE TAKE THE MATTER TO THE BOARD BOARD OF APPEAL.
