The Jackson Economic Development Authority will host Minnesota Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho the morning of Friday, April 1st. The group will then return to City Hall around 11 a.m. for a discussion regarding the housing struggle, especially for market rate workforce housing, facing Jackson and much of Greater Minnesota. A panel of local business and community leaders will join in the discussion. Matt Skaret , Jackson City Administrator stated, “We are excited that Commissioner Ho, Senators Weber and Rosen, and Representative Olson have chosen Jackson to visit and see first-hand how the housing crunch is stifling our growth and impeding the employers from being able to hire the employees they need to sustain and grow their operations. This is a dire situation not only in Jackson, but throughout countless rural communities in Greater Minnesota.” Dave Schmidt, Jackson Economic Development Coordinator, said “Affordable workforce housing has been a major hurdle for businesses in, not only Jackson, but much of Greater Minnesota.”  Schmidt went on to say “this is an incredible opportunity to visit and hear directly from our community the issues we are facing. Jackson is poised for tremendous growth. Housing and infrastructure to support it are two of the biggest hurdles to achieve that growth.”

McDonald’s owner/operators of more than 225 participating restaurants in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and Ironwood, Michigan announced today that they will donate nearly $85,000 to the four Ronald McDonald Houses in Minnesota, located in Minneapolis, Rochester and Duluth.

McDonald’s and its owner/operators raised the money during the March 7th-17th Shamrock The House! fundraiser, pledging to give 25 cents from each Shamrock Shake(r) and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry(r) sold to Ronald McDonald House Charities Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) and The Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, the two entities that operate Minnesota’s four Houses.

McDonald’s Minnesota Co-Op President Melissa Kennedy said she and her fellow owner/operators have raised nearly $775,000 for the charity in Minnesota during the past nine years of this Shamrock The House! event. Kennedy went onto say “We’re proud to support Ronald McDonald House Charities here in Minnesota, where families stay together when it matters most and because of our customers support, we are so grateful to be able to give back to help families and we want to thank all those that helped make this a success.”

The Ronald McDonald House(r) is a home-away-from-home for families who must travel hundreds or more miles to seek medical treatment for their kids. Families stay for free and receive daily, freshly prepared, home-cooked meals, have access to free laundry services, children’s activities and more.
