“We’ve got a great mix of webinars in our summer lineup that will help people of all ages with a variety of interests enjoy the outdoors,” said Benji Kohn, DNR volunteer mentor program coordinator. “Some webinars center on fishing and hunting opportunities and skills, while others are about outdoor adventures or learning more about fish and wildlife conservation.”

The DNR started the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series in March 2021 to share how-to knowledge relevant to outdoor seasons and activities. Webinars are at noon on Wednesdays, last less than an hour, and are recorded and made available online (mndnr.gov/Discover/#tab-1-2).

I hope that you aren’t running late today for this morning, because it is NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY!!!! Time to pull that bike out from last year and jump on and pedal on into work! National Bike to Work Day is always the third Friday in May, which happens to fall right in the middle of National Bike Month! The observance encourages us to bike to work, but it also raises awareness of cyclists as they commute to and from work each day. Get out enjoy the crispiness of the morning and get that feeling of when you were 10 riding down the street with the wind blowing in your face without a care in the world!!!

May 20th is also- International Red Sneakers Day marks a growing movement with a mission to save the lives of those with food allergies while also sharing the story and memory of a boy who loved red sneakers. Energetic and athletic 11-year-old Oakley Debbs inspired the observance. He had a tree nut and peanut allergy, and he loved red sneakers. Sadly, he is also a testament that allergens kill. In November of 2016, Oakley died after eating a slice of cake made with walnut extract. Food allergies come in many forms. While one person’s body will have a deadly reaction to nuts, another’s allergy will be shellfish. The common issue is that both are life-threatening conditions. International Red Sneakers Day promotes improved awareness of all food allergies and support for those who have them.
