Windom Police Department- reported that on June 23rd, Speedway in Windom reported that at approximately 8:30pm a male had driven off without paying for his gas. Value of drive-off was $148.29. On the 20th, at approximately 4pm a 2012 Chevy Sonic and a 1997 Olds Silhouette collided at the intersection of Hwy 60 and Dollar General turnoff. Moderate to Heavy damage to the vehicles and one person was taken to the Windom Area Hospital.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported a Deputy conducted a traffic stop on June 23rd at approximately 12:15 am on Springfield Parkway in Jackson. As a result, a driver was issued a citation for speeding 50 in a 30 mile per hour zone. A Deputy checked on a disabled/unoccupied vehicle in the Delafield Township at 3:23am Assisted a motorist on I-90 near Heron Lake exit with a flat tire at approximately 6pm and a Deputy gave a homeless 20-year-old male a ride from the Nobles County Line to Cottonwood County at his request.

On the 21st a Deputy conducted a traffic stop on County Road 4 near Petersburg. As a result, the driver was issued a citation for speeding 74 in a 55 mile an hour zone. Also a Deputy at approximately 9:50pm responded to a report of a rear window that was intentionally broken out of a vehicle in the Ashley Estates parking lot.  Criminal Damage to Property are pending for a 20 year old male from Jackson.

On June 20th at 5:20 am a Jackson County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on US 71 near Industrial Parkway in Jackson. As a result, the driver was issued a citation for speed 62 in a 45-mph zone. Also at 8:30pm assisted the Lakefield PD with a disturbance. And at about 11pm responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Loon Lake County Parks.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies continue to issue “I Got Caught Ticket’s” to kids for wearing their helmets while riding their bicycles. Kids receive a free Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cone when “Caught in the Act” of wearing their helmets.

Windom City Council will hold a Special meeting for the second half of the Facility Tours on Wednesday June 29th starting at 5pm. The Council will be touring the following locations- Emergency Services Facility, Library, Police Department, Telecom NOC, Island Park & Pool, Powerhouse, Arena, Airport and the North Windom Industrial Park.

According to Denise Nichols, City of Windom Finance/Deputy Clerk, the public is invited to attend each site but they must provide their own transportation.  The tour will begin at 5pm please meet in the back parking lot at City Hall the group will walk to the first 4 locations and then transportation will be needed to attend the remaining locations on the tour.

Cottonwood County 4-H is having a Jam & Bread Workshop on Thursday, June 30th. This workshop is open to youth in grades K-13th (Completed high school as of June 2022) Cost is $15 per participant and the group will leave the Extension Office at 8am to head to Schumacher’s Berries to pick strawberries. After picking the group will turn the strawberries into jam at the Windom Area Middle High School FACS room. The day will be finished by making bread in a bag.
