Windom Police Department submitted their June 2022 Statistics.  There were 473 total calls for service. 11- Adult Arrests, 0- Juvenile Arrests and 5- Warrants Served. They handled 10 accidents with 2 injuries had 4 DUI’s and gave out 117 Traffic tickets and Warnings. On the 7th of July Windom Police Officers conducted a traffic stop at 8:20pm on 13th Street and 4th Ave. Upon investigation, it was learned that the 51-year-old Windom female driving privileges were revoked, the vehicle had expired registration, and she had no proof of insurance.  The driver was arrested on these charges pending County Attorney review. On July 8th at 7am, an Officer was  called to Tegals Park as the street Superintendent noticed an electric car charging it’s batteries by the bathrooms.  After investigation, it was learned that the Tegals park was pinned in an app for a charging station. That has been removed from the app and driver was released.

Jackson County Sherriff’s Office reported on July 6th at 1:44pm Deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of CR 15 and CR 82 in Delafield Township.  Ralph Bretzman of Windom was travelling south on CR 15 on a 2017 Indian motorcycle.  Loring Paschke, of rural Windom, was travelling west on CR 82 in a 1999 Chevy pickup.  Pascke was stopped at a stop sign and continued into the intersection where the vehicles collided.  Bretzman was transported to the Windom Hospital by the Lakefield Ambulance with serious injuries.  Loring was transported to the Windom Hospital with possible injuries by the Windom Ambulance.  Both vehicles were totaled.  The Lakefield Fire Dept, MN State Patrol, and Windom Towing assisted at the scene.  Deputies issued two citations in two separate cases of excessive speed the firs on 1-90 near Lakefield a a 44-year-old male driver from Redmond, WA was issued a citation for Speed: 94 mph in a 70-mph zone. And on I-90 near the Heron Lake exit, a 50-year-old male driver from Clearwater, FL was issued a citation for Speed; 97 mph in a 70-mph zone. Deputies recovered a stolen bike found in the back yard of a residence in Jackson it was returned to the owner who lived a few blocks away.

On July 7th, at 1:20 PM Deputies responded to the north end of Heron Lake near the Jack Creek inlet.  A 26-year-old female who was doing a study for the U of MN on bugs became stranded on the lake.  She had paddled her in a kayak on Jack Creek into the north end of Heron Lake.  When she was finished with the project, she was unable to paddle her way into the strong current on Jack Creek from the recent rainfall.  She became dehydrated and complained of dizziness during the 911 call.  The Heron Lake Fire Dept, Heron Lake Ambulance, and Lakefield Fire Dept all responded.  The Heron Lake FD deployed a boat and deputies deployed a second boat onto Jack Creek while other firemen and deputies began searching on foot.  Other deputies remained on the phone with her as they tried to pinpoint her exact location, which was complicated due to expansive area of tall, dense cattails.   This vegetation prevented her from hearing deputies and firemen calling for her as well as the periodic use of sirens.  She finally heard the rescuers when they were about 30 yards from her.  The female, her kayak, and all of her gear was then transported back to the Jack Creek boat landing in the two boats where the Heron Lake Ambulance was waiting.  The female was transported to the Windom Hospital. On the 8th of July Deputies also handled separate cases of theft, fraud and harassment in Jackson.

The Windom Planning Commission will meet Tuesday July 12th at 7pm in the Windom City Hall Council Chamber

Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services Board Meeting will be held Thursday, July 14th at 9:00am in the Cottonwood County Law Enforcement Center.
