Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports on Saturday  of a funnel cloud in the Fish Lake area.  The National Weather Service informed the Sheriff’s Office it was a cold air funnel that was harmless. At approximately 8:20pm Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in Jackson.  After investigating, a 40-year-old male from Jackson was arrested for probable cause 2nd Degree Assault, Domestic Assault, and DUI and at approximately 10:30pm a deputy assisted the MN State Patrol with a driving complaint of a vehicle swerving on US 71 in the northern part of the county.  The deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  After investigation, a 40-year-old female from rural Windom was arrested for probable cause DUI.

Jackson County BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS and the DRAINAGE AUTHORITY will meet this morning at 8:30 A.M. in the Jackson County Courthouse, Commissioners Board Room located at 405 Fourth Street.

Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will be begin their meeting this morning at 9am  in the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom. After all regular meeting agenda items are discussed the meeting will be closed to discuss strategy for labor negotiations.

Mt Lake Chamber of Commerce will be meeting today at Noon in Mt Lake City Hall.

The Red Rock Central School District Board of Education will be meeting tonight at 5pm in Lamberton.

Windom City Council will be meeting tonight at 6:30pm  in City Council Chambers.

Jeffers City Council met on July 11th the Council welcomed Rosemary Wendland to present information to the Council about Jeffers turning 125 years old in 2024. Wendland plans to start a committee to plan a celebration and the Council fully supported her efforts. Discussion was held on semis parking on City Street it was decided that a certified letter would be sent to residents regarding the abatement of an ordinance violation.  The Council approved a fence permit and the extension of a building permit. It was reported that the house on Whited Street will be cleaned out on July 16th and the Clerk is contacting Zieske’s regarding the surveying property for the Firehall.

Climatologist, Pete Boulay from the MN Dept of Natural Resources- Division of Ecological and Water Resources summarized Minnesota’s climate conditions and the resulting impact on water resources from the July 2022 edition of “HydroClim Minnesota”  Highlights include:

  • Warm and fairly dry June in the state with a few notable exceptions.
  • Heavy rains on June 22-23 in central Minnesota closed Highway 10 in Morrison County.
  • Stormy pattern continued with severe storms and tornadoes on June 20-21 and June 24-25.
  • Soil moisture falling below the median at Lamberton in southwest Minnesota by July 1.
  • Outlook calls for a warmer than normal July, with equal chances of above, below and normal precipitation.
