Windom Police Department reported a counterfeit $100 bill was received by Speedway in Windom on the 11th. The bank discovered the counterfeit bill. The bill was sent to the Secret Service on the 12th.

On the 12th, Dick’s Welding Business Owner reported a suspicious male on his surveillance camera that was possibly taking items off his property sometime overnight on the northeast side of the Dick’s Welding building. The matter remains under investigation.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 11th at 11:40am in Walnut Grove the Redwood County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle believed to be involved in recent thefts in the area. The stop led to multiple arrests and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and stolen golf carts in Redwood County. The incidents are still under investigation.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported Nine encounters the week of August 1st through the 6th. On the 1st, At 6:45am Mt Lake PD assisted Watonwan County Sheriffs Office with an accident with injuries at the intersection of Highway 60 and 630th Ave, Butterfield. Later in the evening at approximately 10:20p a 24-year-old male from Saint James was cited for speeding and no insurance. At 11:28pm an officer assisted MN State Patrol with a Car VS Deer accident. No injuries reported, the car was undrivable and towed. On the 2nd at 9:44pm MT LAKE PD assisted Cottonwood County Deputy with a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of County Road 8 and Highway 60. Vehicle belonged to a Railroad worker and was cleared. On the 3rd at 3pm Mt Lake PD officers assisted DNR officer at Mountain Lake T Dock with an uncooperative individual. On the 4th at 5:50pm an Officer assisted MN State Patrol with a pursuit of a 2019 White Ford F150 Supercrew. Mt Lake PD did not pursue the vehicle but shadowed in case the Ford turned. Officers removed debris from the intersection of Highway 60 and County Road 27 on the 5th and took a report of property damage at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, this remains under investigation. And on the 6th Mt Lake PD received a call concerning a possible break-in or prowler. After investigation officers found two juvenile males in the area and discovered there was no break-ins, but the juveniles were knocking on doors and windows and running away. Juveniles were transported to their guardian’s home.

The Cottonwood County Historical Society located at 812 Fourth Avenue in Windom is sponsoring an Auction for a fundraising  event. The main attraction and idea for the auction came from the renovation of the stone house at Pat’s Grove County Park located in southwest Cottonwood County. A local woodworker, Mark Titus, from Jackson created knives, jewelry boxes and Christmas ornaments from the interior beams and other materials from the stone house. These items and several other contributions are being auctioned off. You can view and place bids on items by going to the Kerkhoff Auctions on-line auction website ( https://kerkhoffauction.com ) Items will be online until the night of the fundraising event on August 18th at the Cottonwood County Historical Society.

If you prefer live bidding, make plans to attend the fundraising event at the museum, Thursday night, August 18. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. with a Social Hour followed by tasty appetizers along with beverages. A cash bar will also be available. The live auction will begin at 7:00 pm and will include Pat’s Grove knives, artwork, and other items. Cost for the event is $15 and includes appetizers and the non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Historical Society or from Board Members.
