Windom Police reported a hit and run incident on the 6th in the 1300 block of 5th Avenue.  The owner of a 2006 Buick LaCrosse reported she had parked on the street in front of her residence. When she had gotten into her vehicle at 7am to go to work, she noticed the driver’s door was hard to close. At that time, she noticed the front drivers door was damaged. On the 3rd of September at 735am an officer met with a Windom female resident who stated she had received an e-mail that her Amazon account was being hacked. The reporting party did not think anything of this until she received a phone call from “Lisa” with Amazon. Lisa advised her that her Amazon account had been hacked and that she needed her to go to her local store and buy gift cards and she will call back to get the numbers off the back. The female went to HyVee in Windom and bought two $500 gift cards. The female did state that the HyVee employee questioned her about this purchase but in her mind she needed to do this to fix her account. The female stated that “Lisa” called back and she gave her the numbers off the cards. “Lisa” then advised her that she needed more money and to get more cards. The female then traveled to Worthington and purchased several more and provided “Lisa” with the card numbers. The total came to $4,250. This matter is under investigation. Also on the 3rd at approximately 11:00am an accident at the intersection of Highway 60 and 6th street sent one person to the hospital. A Female Windom resident driving a 2018 Ford Edge Sport Utility was traveling through the intersection with a green light when a Male from Kearney NE driving a 2005 Hyundai Tucson GL entered the intersection and the two vehicles collided. Windom City Council met on Tuesday of this week. The Council listened to Michael Bogle a Windom Resident concerning his place of residence. Bogle is asking the council to petition the Court to lift a court order already in place for the property to be cleaned up and be safe by October 31st. This would allow him to try to obtain a building permit and start working on the structure to rebuild. Discussion was held between Council members and the building inspector which resulted in the Council NOT taking action so the current court order stands and the property will be looked at on October 31st and decisions may be made at the first meeting in November. The Council heard from the Electric Department about the planned power outage on Sunday September 11th from 3am to 5am. Two 2,825 KiloWatt generators were bid on and Ziegler Power Systems were awarded the lowest bid at 3 million 468 thousand 630 dollars $3,468,630. A call for a public hearing was made for the application for USDA for Fire Equipment Projects. The public hearing has been set for September 20th. The USDA has more money and the Council submitted their 3rd and final request for funding which may be awarded. According to Council member Jenny Quade, there was an equipment request for the Street Department for a Dump Truck/Snow Plow. She went onto say, “This bid had already been out and 3 trucks were set to be ordered but the quote is more than $10,000 more in surcharges. The pricing market for trucks is so rapidly changing.  Overall the thought was to lock in getting the trucks ordered as things will probably continue to change and ordering may be pushed out to a later date if not signed soon.    Council agreed to move forward with the current bid.”

The 2023 Budget Workshop Date were agreed on. They will be September 27th, October 11th and October 25th. All meetings starting at 5:30pm.
