The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office  reported on 11/8/2022 at approximately 2:40 pm, a Deputy responded to the courthouse to arrest a male suspect who is wanted on a warrant. Upon arrest, the deputy found a bag of marijuana and subsequently the male was issued a citation for the drugs.

Mountain Lake held their Regular City Council Meeting on Monday, November 7, 2022.

After the Agenda & Consent Agenda were passed, discussion was held by the Active Living Committee.  They have been working with the school and county to apply for a safe routes to school grant. The school board will be discussing the potential project and routes at their next school board meeting at 5:30pm on November 21st. For the county to apply for the grant, the school and city will need to approve the project.

Michael Mueller City Administrator discussed with the council about purchasing a TV instead of a projector for the Council Chambers. There was also an update given to the council on County Ditch 21, the tile drain system is in worse condition than anticipated, preliminary estimates were given, roughly $175,000- $200,000.

Construction on Highways 15/60 near Madelia is nearing completion for 2022, and the detour and ramp restrictions are expected to be removed today, Nov. 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Some temporary lane restrictions should be expected as minor finishing work continues until mid-November.

Motorists are reminded that construction on Hwy 15/60 near Madelia is a two-year project. The eastbound lanes were under construction in 2022, and the westbound lanes will be under construction next year.

The 2022-2023 project includes resurfacing seven miles from the Hwy 15/60 interchange south of Madelia to the Hwy 15/60 interchange north of Madelia. The project also includes lighting, drainage repairs, updating guardrail and rehabbing several bridges. Benefits of the project include improved pavements and drainage, smoother road surfaces and increased safety along the corridor.

The Cottonwood County Auditor Treasurer office reminds residents that the second half of ag taxes must be paid or postmarked before Tuesday, November 15th. There is a penalty for late payment noted on on the reverse side of the tax statement. Please include the payment stub when paying your taxes. The office is open regular hours and a drop box is located next to the steps in the courthouse parking lot. You can also pay online, just call the office at 831-1905 for other payment options. Remember, payment must be made or postmarked by Tuesday, November 15th.
