Today is Election Day..  Polls are open until 8:00 PM tonight. Windom Community Center will be the official polling place for Windom and In Mountain Lake it is the Mtn Lake Community Center.  You can find your polling place online at the Secretary of State website. If you aren’t already registered to vote, you can register today at your polling place. The Jackson County Sherriff’s office reported on Friday Nov 4th at 9:27 AM  Deputies and the Jackson Fire Dept. responded to a report of a Hometown garbage truck on fire.  Garbage that had just recently been dumped in the hopper caught fire as the truck was travelling through downtown Jackson.  The driver pulled over to the side of the street on 1st Street and emptied the garbage from the hopper.  The fire department doused the garbage with water and put the small fire out.  The garbage that had been dumped on the street was loaded back into the hopper by the Street Dept.  There was no damage to the garbage truck itself.

At 10:00 PM,  A deputy conducted a traffic stop on US 71 in Christiania Twns.  As a result, the driver was issued a citation for Driving After Suspension.

Then on Saturday the 5th at  10:05 AM  A pickup that was stolen from behind the BP gas station on October 13th and found the following day in Oklahoma was returned to the owner in Heron Lake.  The owner requested a K-9 sniff on the vehicle to ensure no illegal drugs were left inside.  K-9 Viper did not alert to the presence of any illegal drugs inside the vehicle. At 11:09 AM  A deputy assisted the Heron Lake Ambulance with a medical.

At 5:58 PM  A deputy responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Petersburg Twns.  A 2003 F-150 Ranch King was reported stolen from sometime earlier in the day.  The matter remains under investigation.

At 7:41 PM  A deputy assisted the Martin County SO with a vehicle fire on I-90 east of the Alpha exit just into Martin County.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s office reminds residents that due to the dry conditions, a burning ban remains in effect until further notice for all of Cottonwood County.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s office reported on 11-5 at approximately 6pm deputies responded to a verbal domestic in Jeffers.

Subsequently the male party was arrested on a Redwood County warrant and turned over to Redwood County.

If you noticed a new, recycling cart in front of your house, don’t panic.  Hometown Sanitation is delivering new containers throughout Cottonwood County before the weather turns.  Hometown will take over the county recycling on January 1st. Please do not use your new cart until January, when they begin service. Also, there will be a packet of information stuffed into your container that will answer a lot of your questions.
