Windom’s Winter Wonderland Craft and Vendor Show is this Saturday, December 3rd from 9-3 in the BARC Building located at 1012 5th Avenue in Windom. There will be a wide variety of vendors along with the annual Bake Sale. Coffee will be sold by BARC from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bake Sale booth and lunch will be available for purchase by One Way Catering from 11 to 1.  Santa Claus will be on hand from Noon to 2  and there will be children’s craft activities available throughout the day. Kids are also invited to the BARC Library from 11 to 3 p.m. to shop for gifts for their parents and siblings. All gifts are priced at under $ 5. This year the event is sponsored by the Windom Women of Today, with proceeds going to support local activities.

The Jeffers City Council met on Wednesday the 28th. Lance Holmen, Zoning Officer, reported on a discussion that was held with the City Attorney. The clerk will call the county about several properties in town regarding back taxes. The Council approved cigarette, liquor, and pool table licenses for 2023 and there was a discussion on the Pickleball courts and on unlicensed semis in town.

Windom Police Department reported on the 25th, an officer went to Bank Midwest and met with the bank employee about fictitious checks being issued. Checks had been cloned from a Bank Midwest Client. There was a single check with the correct account and routing information of client’s account that was issued to an individual in an amount exceeding $2,000. Since routing and account numbers were correct, cash was given to the suspect.  Bank Midwest reimbursed the account holder and the bank is the victim.  The suspect had also passed other checks at the Fairmont and New Ulm locations and are being investigated. Also on the 25th an officer spoke with a representative of Extra Touch Auto about a possible tampering of a vehicle. The owner had activated his video recording system and could see two individuals walking down Township Road and entered the last vehicle on the corner of the lot on the NE Side. The individuals were in the vehicle for over 10 minutes looking around inside. The vehicle had a dead battery and was unlocked. No items appeared to be taken.  On the 26th officers were dispatched to the Guardian Inn of Windom for a report of an unknown person throwing rocks at about 4:50am, breaking two exterior windows. The Property Manager stated she reviewed the security footage and found an unknown suspect wearing dark clothes with a hood, walked into the complex from the north and threw two rocks at the window and then ran off. There was no damage to the interior of the apartments. On the 23rd officers took a theft report at 1107 Elm Street. The reporting party state he left his residence on the 21st and when he came back home the outside gate by the back door of the house was ajar. The back door of the house was not locked. Upon going inside, he noticed his safe was wide open with missing property.  The safe lock was a keypad but the keypad wasn’t working. However, a safe key is to be used to open the safe. He also noted other missing property inside his house. Missing was approximately $3,500 in property 2 X boxes, 1 slims, chainsaws, gold bracelet, necklaces, diamond bracelet and a diamond necklace. At the time of the break in there was no power in the house. The security cameras were inoperable.

The Jackson County Sheriffs office reported on the 28th at 1:29am A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson.  The driver refused to identify himself during the investigation for the stop and was subsequently arrested for Obstructing Legal Process.  His identity was later determined at the jail.  The male, age 32 from St. James, had an active warrant in Watonwan County for Fail To Appear Child Support.  He is also being held on that warrant and will be transported to the Watonwan County Jail at a later date.
